These REV notes are the hardware startup news log for the HardwareMap index: one dated entry per monthly revision, newest first, recording companies added, stages changed and statuses updated. Entries are appended and never rewritten. The current revision is REV 26.09, which lists 219 companies. How revisions and part numbers work is covered in how the HardwareMap index works.

REV 26.09, published 3 October 2026

The baseline revision. It records the index as it stands, so later entries have something to diff against.

Size. 219 companies in 21 countries, grouped into 85 hubs.

By pin.

By country. United States 116, India 22, China 15, Germany 12, United Kingdom 9, France 9. Fifteen more countries have five or fewer entries each.

By hub. SF Bay Area 49, Los Angeles 19, Bengaluru 15, Boston 8, Shenzhen 8, New York 7, Austin 6. The hub breakdown lists the rest.

By status. 189 private, 23 public, 5 acquired, 2 subsidiaries.

Fields. 213 datasheets carry a team estimate (LinkedIn, September 2026). 201 carry a funding figure: 197 with disclosed capital raised, 4 confirmed self-funded. 127 list investors.

Youngest entries. The newest company by founding year is Also (2025, Palo Alto), the e-bike maker spun out of Rivian. Five were founded in 2023: Neros, Base Power, Proxima Fusion, HyperAccel and Positron AI. Half the index was founded in 2017 or later.

Changes since last REV. None to report: this is the first logged revision.

How to read hardware startup news in these notes

Each entry follows the same order: size, then additions, then stage changes, then status changes, then corrections. A stage change means a newly disclosed round. A status change means a company was acquired, listed or became a subsidiary. Removals are rare and always explained, because the listing rules keep acquired companies while their product line lives on.

Counts in an entry are frozen at that revision. The live index, and the counts on category pages, move with the next REV. For product launches and funding inside one fast-moving field, see the humanoid robots news changelog.

What the next entry will cover

REV 26.10 will log companies accepted from submissions, any newly disclosed rounds, and status changes. Its entry goes above this one.

Frequently asked questions

What is a REV number?

A REV number is the revision of the HardwareMap index, written as year and month. REV 26.09 is the September 2026 revision, published on 3 October 2026. Every datasheet, list note and the site footer carry the current REV, so a reader can tell which revision a number came from. Each REV gets one entry in this changelog.

How often does the index change?

Once a month. Each refresh adds new companies, updates funding stages and team estimates, and marks status changes such as an acquisition or a listing. Corrections sent through the submit form are applied in the next REV. Between revisions the index does not change, so a number quoted with its REV stays reproducible.

Why are there no entries before REV 26.09?

REV 26.09 is the first revision logged in this changelog. It sets the baseline that later entries are measured against. Earlier working drafts of the index were not published with REV numbers, so there is no change history to report for them, and this page does not reconstruct one.

How do I get a company into the next REV?

Submit it through the form on the submit page with its website, category, founding year, headquarters and a short description. Each submission is checked by hand against the listing rules: it makes a physical product, it is operating, and the facts have a public source. Accepted companies get a part number in the next revision.

HardwareMap logs every change here first. Building one? Submit it and get a part number in the next REV.

Building one?

Submit it to the index and get a part number. Every entry is reviewed by hand.
